Spoonful Of Comfort

Where Warmth Begins

When Spoonful of Comfort came to us, they were ready for a major shift. Known for their care packages and thoughtful gifting experience, the brand needed a site that could better support growing demand and a more personalized way to shop.

This was not just a replatform. We rebuilt the experience on Shopify 2.0 with a focus on performance, flexibility, and scale, creating a smoother path for customers and a stronger foundation for the business.

The Heart Behind the Brand

Spoonful of Comfort is a direct to consumer gifting brand focused on delivering gourmet soup gift baskets and care packages across the U.S. Their offering centers around handcrafted soups, fresh baked cookies, and curated add ons designed for meaningful moments.

The brand speaks to customers looking for a more personal way to send support, whether it is a get well gift, a sympathy care package, or something to celebrate a new parent. At its core, Spoonful of Comfort combines food, convenience, and emotion into a gifting experience that feels thoughtful and easy to send.

The Challenge

The project moved quickly from the start. With a referral from Spoonful of Comfort’s CTO, timelines were tight and expectations were high. The goal was not just to migrate to Shopify 2.0, but to rebuild the experience in a way that could support growth, gifting complexity, and a more personalized customer journey.

  1. No subscription support
Even with repeat purchasing behavior, there was no way for customers to subscribe or manage recurring orders.
  2. Manual corporate gifting process
Bulk gifting orders were handled manually, creating friction for business customers and adding strain to internal teams.
  3. Limited product page flexibility
Product pages could not support things like dietary preferences, add ons, or more dynamic gift configurations.
  4. No personalization or guidance

Customers were left to figure things out on their own, with no quiz flow, smart bundling, or tailored recommendations.
  5. No self serve tools

There was no way for customers to manage subscriptions, edit deliveries, or make changes after purchase.
  6. Platform limitations

The existing site struggled to keep up with traffic spikes, seasonal campaigns, and an expanding product catalog.

Crafted with Care

Enhanced Product Detail Pages

Challenge

The original product pages struggled to handle the complexity of Spoonful of Comfort’s gift bundles. It was difficult to present multiple options, add ons, and variations in a way that felt clear and easy to use.

Solution

We rebuilt the PDP experience using a modular approach, allowing content and product options to adapt based on what the customer selects. This included flexible layouts, upsell carousels, and logic to support add ons, bundle building, and dietary preferences.

Benefit

Customers can personalize their gift more easily, choosing soups, cookies, and add ons without feeling overwhelmed. The experience feels more guided and intuitive, even with a high number of options.

Results

A smoother product page experience that keeps customers engaged and makes it easier to move from building a gift to checking out.

Subscription Integration with Recharge

Challenge

Spoonful of Comfort did not have a way to support recurring orders, despite clear repeat purchasing behavior from customers.

Solution

We implemented a custom subscription experience using Recharge, allowing customers to subscribe to their favorite products with flexible delivery options. The setup includes easy account management and thoughtful upsell moments within the subscription flow.

Benefit

Customers can set up repeat deliveries with minimal effort, making it easier to stay engaged with the brand over time.

Results

Subscriptions became a meaningful part of the business, with strong adoption and ongoing customer retention.

Personalized Care Package Quiz

Challenge

With so many gift options available, customers often felt unsure about what to choose or where to start.

Solution

We designed a guided quiz experience within Shopify to help customers build a personalized care package. The flow walks through key inputs like occasion, dietary preferences, product types, and recipient details to narrow down the best options.

Benefit

It simplifies decision making and makes the process feel more personal, helping customers build a gift with confidence.

Results

Stronger engagement and a more guided path to purchase, with customers more likely to build larger orders.

Subscription Management Dashboard

Challenge

Customers had no way to manage their recurring orders once they were set up.

Solution

We introduced a fully branded subscription portal through Recharge, giving customers control over their deliveries, products, billing details, and timing.

Benefit

Customers can make changes on their own without needing to reach out, which makes the experience feel more flexible and reliable.

Results

Less reliance on support and stronger long term engagement from subscribers.

Designed for Comfort and Clarity

The UI direction focused on warmth, clarity, and trust. We translated the brand’s emotional tone into a clean, easy to navigate interface, using soft typography, rounded elements, and a more approachable voice throughout.

Accessibility was considered from the start, with scalable type, strong color contrast, and support for screen readers.

We also prioritized how the experience adapts across devices, with a particular focus on mobile. Key actions like building a gift, adding items to cart, and scheduling delivery were made simple and easy to complete on smaller screens.

The Power Of Collaboration

This project moved quickly from the start. Our founder worked closely with Spoonful’s CTO to align on priorities early on, which helped keep everything focused and moving forward.

There was a steady back and forth between teams throughout, with regular check-ins and quick feedback loops. As we learned more through user testing, we adjusted along the way and folded those insights into the work in real time.

It was a collaborative process built on trust, clear communication, and a shared understanding of what the experience needed to become.

Meaningful Moments, Made Simple

Stronger Conversion Across the Experience

With clearer product pages, guided gift building, and a more intuitive cart, customers are able to move from browsing to purchase with less friction.

A More Scalable Gifting Platform

The new Shopify 2.0 foundation supports complex gifting scenarios, from personalized packages to corporate orders, without adding operational overhead.

Recurring Revenue, Built In

Subscriptions are now a natural part of the experience, giving customers an easy way to reorder and stay connected to the brand over time.

Better Customer Experience, Less Support Reliance

With tools like the quiz flow and self serve subscription management, customers can make decisions and manage their orders without needing extra help.

The Gift That Keeps Giving

This project went well beyond a standard redesign. With the move to Shopify 2.0 and the addition of subscriptions and guided gifting, Spoonful of Comfort now has a more flexible setup that supports both growth and day to day operations.

The experience is easier to use, more tailored to each customer, and better aligned with how people shop for gifts. Behind the scenes, the platform is set up to handle increased demand without adding unnecessary complexity.

Overall, it’s a stronger foundation that supports the brand today and gives them room to grow moving forward.
