Old World Coffee Roasters

Grounds for Greatness

Old World Coffee approached port80 with a high-quality product and a loyal customer base. Their existing digital presence didn’t reflect the sophistication of their brand. Their current Shopify store lacked visual cohesion, intuitive user experience, and a strategy centered around subscriptions and growth.

We were happy to step in and reimagine their online presence with a complete brand refresh and a transition to a modern, scalable Shopify 2.0 platform. We crafted custom product detail pages (PDPs), enhanced the UI with thoughtful design elements, and built flexible product systems that can grow with the business. The result: a visually elevated, conversion-focused ecommerce experience aligned with the craft and quality that defines Old World Coffee.

The Brand

Old World Coffee Roasters blends tradition with innovation, crafting ethically sourced coffee for a growing community of enthusiasts. With an expanding network of cafés and a strong customer following, they offer flexible subscription services that cater to both everyday drinkers and seasoned connoisseurs. Their brand celebrates origin stories, nuanced flavour profiles, and the artistry of precise brewing, making them a trusted name for those who value quality, sustainability, and a meaningful coffee experience.

The Challenge

Old World Coffee’s previous website was falling short of the brand’s evolving identity and growing business goals. Built on outdated infrastructure, the site lacked the flexibility and functionality required for modern eCommerce. It offered limited opportunities for brand storytelling, failed to highlight product quality or origin narratives, and lacked the UX clarity needed to support scalable subscription models or drive meaningful conversions. As their customer base expanded and expectations rose, the digital experience was no longer aligned with the sophistication of their offering.

  1. Missed Opportunities in Subscription Engagement
The business was beginning to see traction with subscriptions, but the site lacked the messaging and UX cues needed to highlight their benefits or convert one-time buyers into loyal subscribers.
  2. Inconsistent Product Presentation
Product detail pages lacked visual hierarchy, educational content, and strong calls to action. Key elements needed to support informed purchasing decisions and reduce friction at checkout.
  3. Limited Merchandising Flexibility
The absence of dynamic content tools and structured data fields made it difficult for the team to independently manage seasonal campaigns, sales, and bundles, slowing time to market and increasing reliance on development resources.
  4. Hidden Pathways to Discovery

Key discovery tools such as cross-sells, recommendation modules, and predictive search were underutilized or poorly surfaced, limiting their ability to drive engagement or increase average order value.
  5. Checkout Drop-Off

Shoppers were dropping off before checkout, often due to a static cart and unclear communication of perks like free shipping or subscription savings.

The Perfect Blend

Subscription-Centric Product Detail Pages

Challenge

While subscriptions were available, they weren’t positioned as a primary value add. This presented a clear opportunity to better highlight convenience, savings, and customer loyalty potential.

Solution

We introduced a redesigned product detail page featuring a prominent “Subscribe & Save” value proposition, dynamic delivery options, and a sticky call-to-action toggle.

Benefit

By streamlining the subscription experience, we increased engagement, improved conversion rates, and set the foundation for sustainable, recurring revenue.

Results

Mobile subscription opt-in rates rose by 38%, signaling stronger engagement and clearer value communication.

Sticky Purchase CTAs for Seamless Checkout

Challenge

Mobile users had to scroll to take action, creating friction during key moments in purchasing. Without a visible Add to Cart CTA, high-intent shoppers lost momentum and conversion opportunities were missed.

Solution

We implemented adaptive sticky Add to Cart CTAs that respond to user selection, seamlessly switching between one-time purchase and subscription options to support faster, more intuitive checkout.

Benefit

Speeds up decision-making by removing barriers for high-intent, returning users.

Results

Product engagement improved with a 17% boost in add-to-cart events sitewide.

Coffee Calculator: Slider Tool

Challenge

Without a simple way to align product size with consumption, customers hesitated (especially first-time buyers unfamiliar with coffee quantities).

Solution

Developed an interactive tool that simplifies decision-making by converting daily coffee consumption into recommended bag sizes.

Benefit

Enhances customer understanding and confidence, making it easier to choose the right product without reconsidering.

Results

Shoppers feel more confident in making their selections, leading to fewer abandoned carts and more decisive product interactions.

Branded Mockups for Visual Consistency

Challenge

The product imagery presented an opportunity for greater visual consistency—aligning angles, lighting, and quality to better reflect the brand’s premium positioning.

Solution

Using the brand’s packaging system, we developed uniform mockups to visually align the product lineup.

Benefit

Consistent imagery brought clarity to the shopping experience, helping customers feel confident while navigating similar blends.

Results

Product engagement rose by 48%, with enhanced first-impression metrics pointing to a stronger, more polished brand presence.

Storytelling That Matches the Roast

Challenge

Old World Coffee features a diverse range of single origin and seasonal blends, each with unique tasting notes and character. Before the redesign, the site offered little visual distinction between products, which reduced the impact of their individual stories and flavour profiles.

Solution

We designed product detail pages with custom colour backgrounds and accents that reflect each blend’s origin, flavour profile, or packaging palette. These visual identities help customers quickly recognize and connect with individual products.

Benefit

The visual consistency enhances storytelling, sets the brand apart, and helps returning customers quickly identify their go-to blends.

Results

Product click-throughs rose by 22%, with a 31% increase in time on page, showing greater engagement and stronger visual appeal.

Bold Beans, Roasted UX

We elevated Old World’s digital presence through a complete redesign rooted in clarity, mood, and conversion. The interface blends soft neutrals with origin-inspired colours and generous spacing to let the product take centre stage. Every element from typography to micro interactions was intentionally crafted to reflect a balance of artisanal warmth and modern refinement.

We restructured the product pages and site navigation to create a more seamless and efficient shopping experience. With smart filters, sticky call-to-action buttons, and consistent visual design, the site now feels premium, intuitive, and built to support conversions from start to finish.

The Power Of Collaboration

From the earliest concepts to the final launch, every decision was made with the customer experience in mind. Together, we created a Shopify store that celebrates the craftsmanship behind the coffee while giving the Old World Coffee team the flexibility to continue evolving the site as their business grows.

The Result

Brewed-In Loyalty

Optimized product pages and subscription-focused calls to action made it easier for customers to choose recurring deliveries, helping turn first-time buyers into loyal subscribers.

Bigger Carts, Smarter Merchandising

Strategic upsells in the cart and throughout the shopping journey encouraged customers to explore more products and build larger orders.

Built for Mobile

A mobile-first shopping experience, paired with intuitive navigation and clear calls to action, made purchasing on any device fast and effortless.

From Discovery to Checkout

A more intuitive shopping experience, stronger merchandising, and streamlined product pages helped guide customers confidently from browsing to purchase.

Fewer Questions, Better Answers

Clearer product information, subscription details, and educational content gave customers the confidence to shop with fewer questions along the way.

The Last Sip

The new Old World Coffee site blends flavour, function, and flexibility into a seamless shopping experience. Every detail was designed to reflect the quality of the brand while making it easier for customers to explore, subscribe, and come back for their next order. I think it captures the craft behind the coffee just as well as it supports the business behind it.
