Built for Industry

Barr Plastics supplies tanks, liquid handling systems, and custom plastic fabrication for businesses across Canada. Serving industries including agriculture, water management, construction, and firefighting, the company offers one of the country’s largest selections of storage and handling solutions, backed by decades of industry experience.

The Challenge

Barr Plastics offers thousands of products, from water tanks and pumps to fittings and custom plastic solutions. As the catalogue expanded, the existing Shopify store became harder to navigate and no longer reflected the way customers actually shopped.

  1. A Large Catalogue That Was Hard to Navigate
With thousands of SKUs across multiple product categories, customers often struggled to find the right products. Inconsistent organization, limited filtering, and confusing product naming made it difficult to browse with confidence.
  2. Complex Shipping Requirements
Many products required freight shipping, special handling, or pickup from specific locations. Because these rules were not clearly communicated, customers often needed to contact the sales team before placing an order.
  3. B2B Buying Friction
Many contractors and commercial customers needed features like custom pricing, purchase orders, and quote requests, but much of that process still happened through emails and phone calls instead of the website.
  4. Outdated Theme & Mobile UX

The existing storefront felt dated and was difficult to use on mobile devices. Product pages, technical documents, and purchasing options were not designed for customers researching products from a job site or out in the field.

Built to Handle the Heavy Lifting

Custom Product Tables & Smart Add-ons

Challenge

Many products required compatible stands, fittings, or accessories, but that information wasn’t always easy to find. Customers often had to search through multiple pages or contact the sales team to make sure they were ordering the right components.

Solution

We created custom product tables that clearly present technical specifications alongside compatible accessories and related products. Customers can also request a quote directly from the product page when they need additional guidance or custom pricing.

Benefit

Everything customers need to make an informed purchase is available in one place, reducing guesswork and making complex products easier to buy.

Results

Customers can confidently build the right solution without jumping between pages or contacting the sales team for basic product information. The result is a smoother buying process for customers and fewer routine product questions for the Barr Plastics team.

Built for Products That Require a Quote

Challenge

Not every product could be purchased with a standard checkout. Custom configurations and specialized products required customers to contact the sales team, making the process slower and less convenient.

Solution

We created a product page experience that adapts to the item being viewed. Standard products can be purchased online, while configurable products guide customers through a structured quote request without leaving the product page.

Benefit

Customers always know the next step, whether they’re ready to buy or need a custom quote. The process is clearer, more consistent, and requires less back and forth with the sales team.

Results

The new quoting workflow makes it easier for customers to request pricing on specialized products while giving the Barr Plastics team more complete information from the start. It reduces manual follow up and creates a smoother experience for everyone involved.

Customer Tools & Resources

Challenge

Finding the right product often meant searching through technical documents, specification sheets, and reference materials spread across the website. It took time to gather the information needed to make an informed decision.

Solution

Finding the right product often meant searching through technical documents, specification sheets, and reference materials spread across the website. It took time to gather the information needed to make an informed decision.

Benefit

Customers can research products, compare options, and make informed decisions with the same tools the Barr Plastics team uses every day.

Results

The new Customer Tools hub gives customers a single place to access technical resources, reducing the time spent searching for information and making product research faster and more straightforward

Website Redesign

We focused on delivering an interface that made complex industrial products approachable and actionable. The redesign employed a mobile-first strategy with accessible typography, logical navigation, and modular layouts to reduce cognitive load and support intuitive browsing. By introducing structured visual hierarchies and part compatibility callouts, we turned each PDP into a user-friendly specification tool.

Business Impact:

This redesign dramatically reduced friction in both discovery and conversion. Whether customers are in the field or office, they can now quote, compare, and configure products in fewer steps. By enabling real-time quote requests, improving mobile usability, and linking related products more clearly, the site now functions as a scalable sales channel instead of a static catalog.

Built Together

Every business has its own way of operating, and Barr Plastics is no different. Throughout the project, we worked closely with their team to understand how products are sold, quoted, and fulfilled. That collaboration helped shape a Shopify experience that feels natural for customers while making day to day operations easier for the team behind the scenes.

The Result

A Better Buying Experience

Whether customers are placing a standard order or requesting a custom quote, the new storefront makes the process clearer and easier to navigate. Technical information, compatible products, and purchasing options are available when and where customers need them.

Built for the Way Customers Work

From contractors in the field to homeowners researching a project, the site is designed to help customers quickly find the right products, compare options, and make informed decisions from any device.

Less Manual Work for the Team

By bringing quoting, product information, and customer resources directly into the website, many of the questions and tasks that once required emails or phone calls can now be handled online.

A Stronger Foundation

Barr Plastics now has a Shopify storefront that better reflects the complexity of its business. The platform is easier to manage, supports future growth, and gives customers a more reliable way to browse, research, and purchase products.

Built for the Long Haul

Barr Plastics needed more than a website refresh. They needed a storefront that could support the way they sell, from standard online orders to custom quotes and technical product research. The result is a Shopify experience that’s easier for customers to use and easier for the team to manage every day.
